Recommended Books for the Entrepreneur

A friend of mine recently asked me to recommend some good books on sales and business. I thought it would be good to share that here. My list is far from perfect, and there may be many great books missing from the list – but these are the books that I helped me grow personally and professionally.

The following should be read by any salesperson or professional:

Secrets of Closing the Sale by Zig Ziglar (a bit cheesy, but a great intro to sales)

How to Master the Art of Selling by Tom Hopkins

Unlimited Power & Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey

Success Principles by Jack Canfield

Anything by Brian Tracy

For Small Business Owners –

E-Myth by Michael E. Gerber – one of the most important books I have ever read

Raving Fans by Ken Blanchard

Audio CDs by Anthony Robbins, Jack Canfield, and Brian Tracy are all recommended.

Microsoft Browser Updates Cause Design Problems

Looks like Microsoft is at it again. Their update of Internet Explorer 7.0 has thrown yet another monkey wrench into every web design job. What is the problem, exactly? Websites that are designed in Dreamweaver or any other program may look fine in Explorer 7.0, but not so in Firefox, Safari, or older 6.0 versions of Explorer, causing a nightmare for designers. Sites may have pictures or graphics shift, or get cut off, making them look terrible for viewers who have Explorer 6.0.

This creates so much extra work, as web designers need to check every page in several browsers and versions. My only question is - WHY? I can understand if things may look slightly different in Firefox vs. Explorer, or PC vs. Mac - but why should different generations of Microsoft's program yield different results? You'd think that they can keep the parameters consistent from 6.0 to 7.0. Maybe Microsoft has something against web designers.

Fear not, Watt Media clients! Our designers check every job in a variety of browsers and make the necessary adjustments to make sure the sites we design look the way they should, no matter where they are viewed.
