Here's a great site we use to generate sitemaps for our clients: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
The purpose of doing this is so that Google and Yahoo will know which pages of a website to crawl. This way, as new pages are added, the search engines will be aware of them and include them when they index pages for search results.
